Day 6 of my adventure. We stopped in Castaic Monday night, just about 20 miles from where we were to have breakfast at Cat and Jim Siegelaar's house Tuesday morning. We walked across the street for Chinese food, and were pleasantly surprised at how wonderful it was. So of course we ate too much (we really should have shared an entree), and by the time we got back to the hotel it was pretty much lights out at about 8:30 p.m. That's a first for me. Of course, I can use the excuse that it was 11:30 at home!  At about 11:30 p.m., I was startled awake by someone trying to get into the room. I could hear the key card and rattling of the door. Thank goodness for deadbolts! It turned out to be three young guys trying to find their room, and obviously they had the wrong one.

The morning's ride to "the Cat house" was beautiful... cool and refreshing, and blue sky, at least for a little while. Then we ran into the southern California fog and smog.

The coffee was on and breakfast was cooking, and the house smelled wonderful. And these babies - blackberry and apple cobblers, made from scratch. Yum!

And homemade biscuits and gravy, though I'm not at gravy fan. But the homemade jams and preserves were awesome on those biscuits!

Jim and Cat have a great house... of course in the Los Angeles area land is pretty precious, but their little back yard is so well done. They have a huge deck, and recently put in this firepit area and beautiful grass. The trees are persimmon, lime, and orange - that lime tree is gonna make some good margaritas!

Jim is manning the grill with some of Cat's homemade sausage and some big italian links, while Cat brings out the other goodies.

My buddy, tour guide extraordinaire, and all around good guy, Sherm Acord. It's been fun traveling with him!

A cool cactus in Cat and Jim's back yard.

Guard flamingos :-)

Love this Bougainvillea... and it looks like it loves this spot in the garden!

Cat in her small, but very well organized kitchen. A lot of homemade goodies come out of this place. This lady can cook!

Love this southwestern art on their wall...

After breakfast we had a great ride up to Solvang; just a few shots from yesterday's ride.

Miles and miles of Oleander in the medians. Beautiful!

It was still a little hazy, so getting good shots of the ocean was a bit tough, but there will be many more of those to come :-)

Too bad it was hazy, the photos don't do the view justice.

This was probably the most clear shot I got on the ride, there are crops growing in every available flat spot.

Now we're on Day 7, and about to leave for a private tour of the motorcycle museum. I hear it's one of the best in the country, so I'm excited to see what it has in store.

This is the Solvang Inn and Cottages, where our VROC gathering is taking place. A great little inn.

A bench outside the office... I think we need one of these in Briarcrest!

This morning we walked across the street to this little Danish bakery, where they have free pastries for the hotel guests. I had a Kringle, and they also give you a fresh roll and strawberry preserves. Excellent! And good coffee, too.

What a great little trike - this is a replica Morgan with an S&S engine... this one is for you Don Evans! I can see you putting around the neighborhood in this. The older couple driving it were really cute with their helmets and goggles. They were off shopping before I could catch a photo.

That's all for now, time to saddle up and ride out to the museum. Then we're going to go visit the little ponies and donkeys, I believe the ostrich farm, and the lavender farm. May have to pick up some samples there :-) (lavender, not ostriches!). More later!
